Barclays is prepared to give 540 million euros for 135 branches BMPS


British bank Barclays has entered into negotiations to purchase a network of 135 offices of the Italian Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena, the oldest credit institution in the world, Reuters reports citing people familiar with the matter.

Possible amount of agreement of 540 million euros ($ 804.8 million). Barclays is offering to pay a 4 million euro for each branch, explained one of the sources.

Offer increased from 3 million euros per branch, but BMPS firmly on the figure of 5 million euros, the Italian business daily Il Sole. In the next few days should have a meeting of the parties and consultants from the Barclays Morgan Stanley.

The British bank is also preparing a fallback position, and buying offices in Italy to ensure the strengthening of its position in this country.
