Ethiopia has asked the world to an emergency

Ethiopian Government has asked the international community for urgent food aid to save from starvation 6.2 million people. The Ethiopian authorities have made that request during a meeting with international donors have gathered to discuss the implications of a prolonged drought that has affected some parts of East Africa.

UN World Food Program has already exceeded the annual fund to provide assistance to Ethiopia for 85 million dollars.



The charity Oxfam called for a new approach to promoting this country.

Exactly 25 years after the hunger in Ethiopia killed about a million people, the organization points out that the supply of products save lives in the short term, but did nothing to help them cope with the next disaster.

In its report, Oxfam calls on international donors to prepare local communities to prevent and mitigate the effects of natural disasters before they will be impressed by their country.

"Drought should not cause starvation and deprivation," - said the director of the International Department Oxfam Penny Lawrence, who had just returned from Ethiopia.

"If there are irrigation systems, granaries and basins to collect rain water, they can themselves provide all weather conditions" - she added.

The plight of Ethiopia, the drought, exacerbated by the conflict in Somalia, climate change and population growth.

According to the UN World Food Program, the effects of drought in Ethiopia suffer from more than 10 million people and 4.6 million are facing famine. These figures may rise.

The problem is further compounded by high food prices.

In September, Oxfam called for urgent to collect 15 million dollars to help the entire East African region. It is believed that there is famine threatens 23 million people from seven countries.
