Magna plans to complete the transaction on the purchase of Opel in the next few days


Canadian car maker Magna International Inc. plans to finalize a deal to buy Opel, германского unit General Motors, in the coming days, reported Bloomberg.

"We want to close the deal as quickly as possible, - said CEO Siegfried Wolf, Magna in Madrid. - We hope to sign the agreement in the next couple of days."

On Thursday the Spanish trade unions Opel reported that they had reached a preliminary agreement with Magna, which involves maintaining the status quo at the Spanish plant until the summer of 2011 and the reduction of more than 900 jobs.


Previously Magna planned to reduce 1,350 positions at the plant in the Spanish town of Figueres.

Board of Directors of General Motors decided to sell 55% Opel alliance Magna and Sberbank of Russia in September.
