Japan did not agree with the revision of U.S. nuclear doctrine

Japan expressed its disagreement with the impending revision of U.S. nuclear doctrine. Washington plans to abandon the right of first strike, and that is sparking protests from Tokyo. It was informed by the Japanese news agency Kyodo News, citing the International Commission on Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament.

The representative of Japan to the commission Yoriko Kawaguchi stressed that his country fully supports the initiative of U.S. President Barack Obama to the total elimination of nuclear arsenals of the world. However, he said, Tokyo is concerned that "the failure of U.S. law making the first nuclear strike significantly reduce the defense of Japan, under the protection of the U.S. nuclear umbrella." Kawaguchi pointed out that such a development threat from North Korea Japan will be felt more strongly.

In the United States is currently preparing a new nuclear doctrine, which must be completed to be held in May 2010 Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons in New York. It is already known that the preliminary version of the document is approved only deterrent role of nuclear weapons in defense of the United States. Thus, Washington intends to waive its right to pre-emptive nuclear strikes.
