The United States and Israel are still disagreements on the settlement of the Middle East

The United States and Israel are still disagreements over the conditions necessary for the resumption of negotiations on a peaceful settlement in the Middle East. This statement was made by Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. According to him, meeting with U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East, George Mitchell will help bring closer the positions of Washington and Jerusalem, transmits Associated Press.

U.S. for several months already making efforts to bring Israel and the Palestinian Authority to the negotiating table. The stumbling block was the question of Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories. In early September 2009 the Israeli government has granted permission to build 455 new settlements in the West Bank. At the same time, Jerusalem has signaled the possibility of a temporary moratorium on issuing new permits.

The United States insists on a complete freeze on Israeli settlement activity in Palestinian territories occupied during the Six Day War of 1967.
