China has built the world's most powerful solar power plant

American energy giant First Solar in China has received a contract to build the world's largest solar power plant, which is located near the border with Mongolia in the desert. First Solar announced that specialists will build 2-gigawatt solar power station in the region of Inner Mongolia. The construction of such a station - a step not only economic but also largely political: the fact that the United States and China are the biggest polluters of our planet, so now, and have begun to actively introduce green technologies in order to avoid attacks by other countries. Something similar is said and representatives of the companies themselves.

Agreement on construction was signed on Wednesday evening representatives of the Chinese side at the headquarters of First Solar in Arizona. Construction of super-station will go into 4 stages and will take only slightly more than 10 years. Following the construction of the station, power from solar panels will be provided with three million private homes.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but First Solar said that if such a station was constructed in the United States, it would have cost 5.6 billion dollars, but China's lower labor costs and a number of components are cheaper, and because the cost of the plant will be lower.

Earlier in the PRC declared the plan, under which about 10% of the country's energy requirements will be met by renewable energy, and by 2020 this amount will be increased to 15%. In addition to solar energy country intends to use hydropower, wind power station on the biomass and various organic wastes. In every region of the country will focus on its form of energy.

Now China's total wind power capacity of 90 megawatts. Recently, the country has revised the plan for alternative energy in the direction of a significant increase: China originally planned to get out of "green" sources to 1.8 gigawatts by 2020. Now, however, planned to overcome the bar of 2 gigawatts in 2011, and in 10-20 gigawatts by 2020.

Representatives of First Solar reported that the July 1, 2010 they will introduce a system of so-called demonstration area station with capacity of 30 megawatts, after which the project before 2014 should reach the mark of 870 megawatts by the end of 2019 - 2 gigawatts.

Previously, China started construction of the largest in the Asian region, wind power, capable of producing about 10 million kilowatts of electricity. Power situated in the northwestern province of Gansu. "The construction of such a wind power industry in China to a new level. A once an alternative source, wind energy becomes a full participant in the process of generation of electricity across the country," - said Zheng Guobao, Minister for National Development and Reform Commission, the chairman of the PRC.

According to him, after entering a new plant into operation, the country will become the fourth world producer of electricity from wind energy. The main problem with wind and solar stations, the official said, is the complexity of their connections with traditional energy networks, in addition, there are a number of legislative constraints.

The cost of the new station will be 120 billion yuan or 17.6 billion dollars. By the end of 2010 the station's capacity will reach 5.15 million kilowatts, and by 2015 hopes to bring the power and up to 12.71 million kilowatts. Even by 2015 this power, as they say in China, will be the largest in the region.
